The Fox is Black

interesting articles from {the fox is black}
on the downfall and demise of hipsterdom

and the movement that he sees following

the {diy article} caught my attention most with this observation:

"Kids these days are skipping college because they don’t have to go to college any longer. Other kids are pursuing higher education beyond undergraduate degrees because they feel this will make them stronger candidates for jobs when, in reality, delaying the workforce makes them less of a part of the world. Unless you are going to become a doctor or lawyer, college is no longer necessary. You can take a few classes locally and work locally and get what you want out of life. You just have to be committed to what you want to do."

i'm wrestling with this concept.  i find it interesting because i have experienced it but the personal enrichment and growth that occurs being challenged day after day in the college environment seems worth the bitter aftertaste of lacking workforce experience.  but it still rings true- you don't need college, you just have to be committed to what you want to do.  but just because you don't need college does not mean it is useless.
